Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented civil litigation paralegal to support defense-side attorneys in all phases of litigation, from intake through trial and post-trial matters. The ideal candidate will have strong Montana civil procedure knowledge (or the ability to learn local rules quickly), excellent organizational skills, and experience managing case calendars and discovery in defense matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation dockets and case files; calendar deadlines (statute of limitations, filings, hearings, depositions).
  • Draft, format, and serve pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, subpoenas, notices, and correspondence in compliance with Montana Rules of Civil Procedure and local rules.
  • Coordinate and manage discovery: prepare document productions, review and index evidence, manage privilege logs, monitor ESI collections, and work with vendors for eDiscovery as needed.
  • Summarize depositions, medical records, expert reports, and other substantive documents.
  • Prepare trial materials: witness lists, exhibits, trial binders, demonstratives, jury instructions, and pretrial orders; assist at trial and hearings (logistics, copying, exhibit handling).
  • Communicate with clients, experts, opposing counsel, courts, and vendors; maintain confidential client files.
  • Perform factual investigation: obtain and review police reports, incident reports, property records, employment files, and other records; coordinate records retrieval.
  • Conduct legal research and factual background checks to support motions and strategy.
  • Assist with settlement preparation and closing tasks, including drafting settlement agreements and handling release paperwork.
  • Maintain and improve office procedures, templates, and knowledge management for defense litigation matters.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of civil litigation paralegal experience, preferably on the defense side (insurance defense, personal injury, premises liability, employment defense, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of Montana civil procedure, state court filing and service rules, and federal practice preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, and litigation tools (e.g., Clio/PracticePanther, Relativity/Concordance/Logikcull, e-filing systems).
