Job Description

Sojourner Project is a nonprofit organization serving those who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault and/or elder abuse. Sojourner’s primary purpose is to increase victim safety and support the journey from victim to survivor. Sojourner advocates work closely as a team to provide comprehensive services to victims/survivors at any stage of their experience with domestic violence. We encourage self-determination and informed-decision making. Located in the western suburbs of Hennepin County, Sojourner is seeking a full-time Community Legal Advocate. This is a non-attorney position.

Position Summary: Sojourner’s Advocates offer assistance with safety planning, finding community resources, and provide information to increase victims’ understanding of their rights, court process and options. Advocates support victims in criminal, civil and family court and assist with preparing and obtaining protective orders. Sojourner will provide training and education as needed to increase competence and effectiveness. This position starts at $21-$23 per hour, depending on experience, and includes access to health benefits, PTO and paid holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Undergraduate degree in related field
  • 1- 2 years of direct human service experience (internship experience will be considered)
  • Understanding of domestic violence, trauma and its impact on victims
  • Personal or professional experience with socially, economically and culturally diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Please Note:

  • A valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle is required. Mileage is reimbursed when personal vehicle is used for off-site work
  • Sojourner is required to run a background check for all staff
  • Compensation: $21-$23/hr plus benefits
