Job Description

The Director of Ministry is a key leadership position responsible for the vision, development, coordination, and administration of all faith formation and youth ministry efforts, including evangelization and catechesis, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. This role oversees a comprehensive, lifelong faith formation program that serves children, adolescents, young adults, and adults, fostering spiritual growth and active participation in parish life. The Director of Ministry works collaboratively with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and families to ensure that all programs reflect the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church while responding to the needs of a growing and diverse parish community. Position Type: Full-Time, Salaried (40 hours/week) Includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by parish programming Reports To: Pastor with administrative oversight from the Parish Manager Areas of Responsibility Leadership & Vision Develop and implement a cohesive vision for lifelong faith formation aligned with parish and diocesan priorities Serve as a member of the parish leadership team Promote a welcoming, evangelizing, and mission-driven culture across all ministry areas Provide support to all ministries at the parish, including liturgical ministries and ministries for Sacramental preparations Faith Formation Oversight Provide direct oversight and strategic direction for all programs, including: Adult Education & Faith Formation (including young adult ministry) High School Youth Ministry Middle School Youth Ministry Elementary School Youth Ministry Responsibilities include: Curriculum selection and development consistent with Catholic teaching Sacramental preparation programs in collaboration with clergy Evaluation and continuous improvement of all programs Staff & Volunteer Management Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate ministry staff and volunteers Foster leadership development among coordinators and catechists Ensure safe environment compliance and proper training for all volunteers Program Development & Coordination Plan and oversee retreats, service opportunities, and special events Coordinate intergenerational and family-based faith initiatives Ensure programs are accessible, engaging, and spiritually enriching Pastoral Engagement and Evangelization Build relationships with parish families, youth, and adult participants Provide pastoral support and guidance as appropriate Collaborate with other parish ministries and outreach efforts Coordinate a parish presence in the broader community Administration & Communication Develop and manage the ministry budget Maintain accurate records and registration systems Communicate effectively through parish platforms (bulletin, website, social media) Ensure compliance with diocesan policies and procedures Qualifications: Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education, or related field required (Master's preferred) Minimum 3-5 years of experience in parish ministry or faith formation leadership Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong understanding of Church teaching Skills & Competencies Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities effectively Excellent communication and public speaking abilities Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across diverse groups Proficiency in administrative and digital tools Work Environment & Expectations Full-time position requiring flexibility in scheduling Regular evening and weekend commitments Active presence at parish events, liturgies and liturgical celebrations, and ministry activities Compensation & Benefits Salaried position commensurate with experience Benefits package consistent with parish/diocesan policies Mission Alignment The Director of Ministry is expected to actively support the mission of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church by fostering discipleship, encouraging lifelong faith formation, and building a vibrant, Christ-centered parish community.
