Registered Nurse (RN) - Extended Observation Unit & Crisis Respite Services
Location: Texas City, TX
Schedule: Begins with 8-hour training shifts; transitions to 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 8:00 PM or 7:00 PM - 8:00 AM)
Pay: $36.00/hr

Dean's Professional Services is now hiring Registered Nurses for Extended Observation Unit and Crisis Respite Services in partnership with the Galveston County Mental Health Wellness Center. This is a unique opportunity to support individuals in crisis with mental illness, substance use disorders, or dual diagnoses, in a high-impact care environment.
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the PMHNP Nurse Manager, the RN is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to individuals in the Crisis Center's Extended Observation Unit (EOU) and Crisis Respite program. This includes initial assessments, ongoing patient monitoring, and collaboration with interdisciplinary care teams to support patient safety and recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Complete comprehensive admission assessments for all incoming patients
* Conduct physical health assessments as required
* Perform venipuncture for lab work, drug screening, pregnancy tests, and EKGs upon admission
* Reassess each patient every two hours
* Ensure medical admission criteria are met prior to admission
* Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record
* Collaborate with local and state hospitals and other health professionals
* Support the safety and well-being of patients and staff within the Crisis Center
* Follow all clinical protocols and standards per the Texas Nurse Practice Act
* Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Crisis Center RN Manager
Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent required
* Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of Texas
* Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health, psychiatric, or crisis care settings
* Experience with co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use) preferred
* Proficiency in performing clinical tasks such as venipuncture, EKG, and physical health assessments
* Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
* Flexibility to work varying shifts based on program needs
* Must complete initial 8-hour training shifts before transitioning to full 12-hour schedule
