- We require a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another relevant engineering discipline.
- We need strong capability in writing and interpreting ECU hardware technical requirements, paired with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- We require solid knowledge of microcontrollers, memory technologies, vehicle serial data networks such as Ethernet, CAN, LIN, SENT, and SERDES, as well as mechatronics and electrical architectures.
- We need a good grasp of semiconductor physics, device structures, fundamentals, models, and failure mechanisms.
- We require a strong understanding of hardware and low-level software interface design, including failure modes in electronic control units.
- We require familiarity with GM product development cycles and prior experience with automotive release and specification processes.
- We need demonstrated leadership and project management experience on complex technical programs.
- We require a proactive, results-oriented professional who takes initiative to solve complex system-level problems.
- We need excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively while providing technical guidance and mentoring across diverse teams.
- We require experience using technical requirement capture and management tools.
- We require DFSS Black Belt certification.
- Preferred: 8+ years of engineering experience in product development, specifications, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master of Science in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Preferred: Deep knowledge of safety-critical embedded controls, either in an automotive subsystem or another complex safety-driven industry.
- Preferred: Experience defining or specifying ECU circuit-level requirements and supporting product development, analysis, or validation for safety-critical systems.
- Preferred: Experience applying functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178C to hardware and low-level software requirements.
- Preferred: Experience with EV electrical/electronic architectures and ECU requirements for high-voltage propulsion, battery management, and charging or control systems.
- Preferred: Familiarity with DOORS and/or DOORS Next Generation requirement management tools.
- Preferred: Experience translating ECU hardware interface specifications into maintainable C-language prototypes for HWIO and low-level software use.
Responsibilities: - We update existing and develop new ECU hardware electrical and functional interface requirements, including interactions with vehicle electronic devices and low-level software.
- We support semiconductor and microprocessor functional safety work by developing requirements that align with safety manual use cases.
- We standardize I/O interfaces within hardware requirements and promote common component designs across ECU platforms.
- We gather, identify, and create embedded controller requirement definitions from a range of GM stakeholders, including vehicle, architecture, infrastructure software, low-level software, diagnostics, and hardware design teams.
- We participate in weekly requirement review and change-control meetings to evaluate and approve technical updates.
- We compile CTRS documents and build requirement sets from common and controller-specific inputs to support sourcing activities and post-sourcing design changes.
- We establish and improve traceability between internal and external CTRS requirements and their verification activities.
- We align requirements implementation with outsourced and build-to-print design efforts and drive design corrections when solutions do not meet common requirements.
- We support requirement and specification updates for ECU manufacturing, remanufacturing, and plant or service programming implementations.
- We stay current on emerging technologies and competitor documentation practices to continually improve our requirements process and standards.
- We may travel domestically or internationally as needed, with travel expected to remain minimal.
